Welcome to Year 5 (Class 8)

Welcome to Class 8 (Year 5) with Mr Rowntree (Class Teacher) and Miss Hogan (Support Staff).

In Year 5 we have a positive learning attitude and work hard to achieve our personal goals and targets.

As part of Upper KS2, our Year 5 pupils are encouraged to independently apply their knowledge and demonstrate increasing responsibility in a variety of different ways across every subject area. We are a hard-working class, building on what we have already learned as some of the oldest children at Rift House, and looking to the future as we prepare for the challenges of Year 6 and beyond!

As with the rest of Rift House, our Year 5 pupils are continually encouraged to make the right CHOICES in their time with us, both at school and at home. We believe that these CHOICES go far beyond good behaviour and, instead, enable our children to grow into independent, conscientious and proactive members of an ever-evolving society. We take pride in endeavouring to ensure that our pupils leave us as well-rounded and unique individuals wholly prepared for the challenges ahead and eager to embrace every opportunity that they will be presented.

Take a look at our CHOICES below!

Our Learning Environment

Welcome to...

Our learning environment is safe, inviting and inspirational! Enriching our environment is key. Our SENSES curriculum approach means we explore learning through experiences. Our displays focus on celebrating our work through "working walls" that explore our learning journeys.
...our classroom!
Reading is at the core of our classroom. We believe every child has the right to read and we provide a range of opportunities. Our classroom library is stocked with a range of fiction and non-fiction books that complement our wider curriculum and provide knowledge and inspiration. Pupils always have the opportunity to make use of our reading corner, enjoying their favourite books or exploring new ones!

Our Timetable

Our Learning Journey in Year 5

What have we been up to?

During Online Safety Week, we thoroughly enjoyed creating a short video exploring the (seemingly) simple choices we make online every day. We were immensely proud of the time and effort our pupils put into this day and how maturely and confidently they handled the subject content. Staying safe online is something we must all consider and we believe that our Year 5 pupils have demonstrated an excellent example. We hope you can find the time to watch the video as our pupils invested such a lot of time and effort into creating it!

Reminders

  • Year 5 PE is every Tuesday and Friday (which is a swimming session at High Tunstall) - children MUST bring their individual kitbags complete with their full PE kit. Any medication, such as inhalers, MUST be present in school.

  • Year 5 children are expected to read EVERY night, and must comment at least TWICE in their own reading diaries across a school week. This can be a comment about a character, a setting, an event or facts within the book, magazine or online article they are reading.

How can you help your Year 5 child?
